The Capacity Building Assistance Provider Network (CPN) defines Social Determinants of Health (SDH) as “the complex, integrated, and overlapping social structures, policies, and economic systems that include: the social and physical environments, health services structure, and societal factors that are responsible for most health inequities.”  According to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States: Updated to 2020: “The Nation cannot meet the Strategy goals without reducing disparities. Poor social and environmental conditions, coupled with high rates of HIV among specific populations and in geographic areas, contribute to stubbornly persistent—and in some cases, growing— HIV-related health disparities” (NHAS, 2015).

The purpose of the webinar is to increase the knowledge of CBO, HD and HCO providers on the connection the social determinants have on HIV-related health disparities.

• Participants will hear about definitions and identify key social determinants that are responsible for disparities related to population, geography, etc. in their focused work areas.
• Participants will hear examples of what people are doing to address the challenge that particular social determinants create.
• Participants will learn about methods to increase their capacity to address social determinants in their HIV prevention and care work.
