Dear partners – Join the ACLU of California and Alliance for Justice’s Bolder Advocacy attorneys for a FREE training session to help support your statewide advocacy. AFJ’s Bolder Advocacy initiative has collaborated with thousands of nonprofit organizations, working with their leaders, staff, and volunteers to understand the legal issues involved in public policy work.
Nonprofits can safely, legally, and effectively engage in state-level advocacy and lobbying work in California, but they need to understand what rules apply to their lobbying activities under California state law. This training is designed for tax-exempt organizations doing work at the state level in California.
The workshop will focus on California law and cover:
- When an organization (or its employees) must start filing California lobbying disclosure reports;
- The definitions of which activities are considered “lobbying” under California state law and how those definitions differ from IRS lobbying definitions;
- The restrictions on organizations or individuals that lobby in California; and
- New FPPC requirements requiring more detailed reporting on expenditures in support of lobbying.
Join us for a discussion on the California lobbying disclosure requirements and what nonprofits should know to easily comply.
