DESCRIPTION

The City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services is recruiting for a Public Health Associate (Non-Career) to serve as the My Brother's Keeper Initiative Coordinator in the Collective Impact and Operations Bureau. Reporting directly to the Bureau Manager, this position will provide oversight in the development, implementation, and administration of the City's My Brother's Keeper Initiative. Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12-month period, and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, Non-Career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. This position is located at the Main Health Department, 2525 Grand Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90815.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Supervising and training My Brother's Keeper Initiative staff.
  • Engaging, collaborating, and coordinating with City and community stakeholders to improve outcomes for young men and boys of color.
  • Planning and facilitating My Brother's Keeper Advisory Council meetings.
  • Building and driving stakeholder and funder relationships.
  • Crafting all My Brother's Keeper communications, including written grant reports and regular email communications to stakeholders.
  • Supporting the My Brother's Keeper Youth Leadership Program.
  • Monitoring grant budgets and other administrative materials.
  • Assisting in the development and oversight of Requests for Proposals and contracting for vendors, subcontractors, and other agencies.
  • Researching potential funders and developing proposals.
  • Performing initiative evaluations and monitoring quality assurance. 
  • Maintaining the My Brother's Keeper Initiative website and social media platforms.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

  • Four years of experience managing or coordinating community-based programs. (Academic degrees in Social Work, Public Health, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a closely related field may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferment required.)
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license. (Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months of employment if license is out of state. DMV H6 Driver History printout required during onboarding).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a closely related field. Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferment required.

  • Proficiency in the use of computers, including email, internet, and office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Professional experience with social media platforms.
