Did you know that October is Let’s Talk Month? Although Let’s Talk Month is a great opportunity to increase awareness about family communication, any time is the right time for parents to communicate openly and honestly with their kids. Research shows that when parents or other trusted adults engage kids in open and honest conversations and share their values, children are more likely to make healthy decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. This includes delaying intercourse and regularly using contraception and condoms when teens become sexually active.

TalkWithYourKids.org was developed to help parents and other trusted adults start and navigate these important conversations. The site features information and resources in English and Spanish, including a recently enhanced Talk With Your Kids Timeline with more robust and dynamic content developed in partnership with experts in the field, and informed and tested by California parents. The interactive Timeline includes age-appropriate activities and key messages about important topics like puberty and development, healthy relationships, consent and prevention. A new supplemental User Guide has also been created to share additional resources with partners, providers and parents.
